Kolli hills are said to be guarded by Kollipavai also known as “Ettukai amman” the local deity. According to legends the deity chased away the demons who were disrupting the peaceful penance of the sages.
The forests higher up in the slopes are home to several species of endemic trees and plants. It’s a lesser known hill station therefore isn’t fully commercialized. Hence, a sought after destination by nature lovers, Hikers, Riders & Ayurveda and meditation practitioners.
The hills are featured in several works of Tamil literature and is revered as a place of pilgrimage with many mythological references and tales. According to legends the 18 most revered Sidhars of Tamil literature have done penance amidst the serene green slopes of Kolli Mallai.
Its slopes are renowned for their exclusive medicinal herbs and plants, which helps retain health and vigour. Kolli hills has 3 reserve forests that are controlled by the Government of Tamil nadu namely Ariyur Solai, Kundur Nadu and Pulianjoli.

Even though this mystic destination is open throughout the year, June-October is considered the best time to visit Kolli Hills.
